English, of course!

Sprachaufenthalt in England

Cambridge

It was the first time I’ve ever been to Cambridge so I was very excited to go there. We stayed in different families and I was with two friends of mine, Carla and Sarah. I didn’t know very much about Cambridge. But many people mentioned the many colleges to me. So I thought, ok, I’m not very interested in colleges. They are nice but not more and not less. But after seeing one of these Colleges I thought it’s overwhelming. It looks like a house out of Harry Potter. And I thought all the time these houses don’t exist in reality. They look so old but also so nice. They are a little bit black. All of them are amazing. They are so big. In the photo there is also a big meadow and in the middle of this meadow there is a statue. I changed my ideas about Colleges in England. (Text/Bild: Joy Hoppe)

It was very funny to see two police-women in the city of London. I've never  seen this before! And the whole time in England was just fun, interesting and nice. I've really learned a lot.

Weshalb der Apfel vom Baum fällt

Baum

II am proud to present you a picture of Newton's famous apple tree, in front of the famous Trinity College in Cambridge. Sir Isaac Newton is of course famous for his theory of gravity, which allegedly came about when an apple fell on his head, and he pondered the question "why do apples fall?" Newton was a professor at Cambridge, but when he pondered this particular question he wasn't at Cambridge, since the university was closed due to plague. He was in an orchard at Woolsthorpe, his home town. A descendant of the original tree can be seen growing outside the main gate of Trinity College, below the room Newton lived in when he studied there. According to our tour guide, DNA samples were taken from this tree which proved that it did indeed derive from ones in the orchard at Woolsthorpe.

King’s College: das Wahrzeichen von Cambridge

Kings Coledge

We all stayed with a host family in Cambridge and went to school by bicycle. One day our class visited the King’s College Chapel. It was built in 1441 and it took about 100 years to finish it. The King’s College and the King’s College Chapel are the symbols of Cambridge. They are some of the most beautiful and famous buildings of Cambridge. In the evening we went to the King’s College Chapel and we had the opportunity to listen to a church service. It was a little bit unusual because we never heard something like that before. We all have wonderful memories of that evening.

Haus

In this house we lived during the two weeks in Cambridge. We lived with a woman and two children. There were also three other students from China, Russia and Saudi Arabia. The house was small, but beautiful. Our room was downstairs, just beside the front door.

Trip to London: Geld ausgeben leicht gemacht

London

The best thing of this study abroad was London. We were there for two days. London is a great city! I love it. This picture was taken in the underground station PIMLICO. Our hotel was right next to the station. These two days were fantastic. On Saturday morning, we went sightseeing in London until 1 o’clock. After the sightseeing we went to Oxford Street for shopping. The shops in London have great clothes but most of them are very expensive. In the evening we went out. Many friends said we had to go to Piccadilly Circus. So we went there and it was really great. On Saturday we slept until 10.30 and packed our suitcase. After checking out we went to Oxford Street again and spent our remaining money. At 7 o’clock we went back to Cambridge. The weekend in London was great and I will visit London again!

Trinity College: Nobelpreisträger am laufenden Band

Trinitiy College

Cambridge is famous for its university. I’ve known Cambridge since I was a little child, because I always heard this name in films or series like „Gilmore Girls“ or „OC Callifornia“ when they talked about universities. The university of Cambridge is divided in many individual colleges, which are more or less independent from each other. In Cambridge there’s no college where only mathematic students or law students study; in Cambridge the students are mixed in each college. „Trinity College“ is the biggest and richest college in Cambridge. Trinity has more members than any other college in Cambridge or Oxford: about 1000 students are studying there. In the picture you see Trinity College.

London Eye

This picture was taken in the London Eye and it shows the whole Palace of Westminster. I choose this one because of the beautiful sight you had from there and because the Palace is one of the most impressive buildings I have seen in England. Unfortunately the quality of the picture isn’t the best, but I hope that doesn’t matter.

Cambridge: Stadt der Bücher, Studenten und Parties

Cambridge

Cambridge is a beautiful small city which has lots of students and young people. I was in the host family with a friend and the family (you can see their house was very nice and friendly!) Each day we had school from 9.30 to 15.30 in three classes of each thirteen students. The teachers were good and we learned a lot. After school we went to the centre of Cambridge for shopping or home to get ready for the even-ing.

Kurzportrait Cambridge

Titagel

Remains of Tintagel Castle, legendary birthplace of King Arthur. When I took the picture, Anna, Domi, Melvin, Jee and me were sitting there, enjoying the view. It was so unimaginable, we all loved this place. It was something you normally only see in magazines or hotel brochures. In my opininon, the time we sat there, ate our lunch and talked with each other, was the best of the whole stay. It was for all of us a spe-cial moment we will remember for a long time.

Kurzportrait Exeter
